Hello.
I'll be out the test of the week. We do not have the luxury of waiting, so we need to start learning about our next unit in web science, distributed approaches to the web. Your test on search will come back.
The first topic I'd like you learn about is Mobile computing, ubiquitous computing, peer-2-peer network, grid computing. Please carefully read the wiki page, and then quiz a neighbor. After that, try this quiz, there is a markscheme underneath the quiz.

A city wants to optimize its traffic flow using smart technologies. Describe how ubiquitous computing could be applied to achieve this.

To what extent are grid computing systems essential for solving complex scientific problems?

Question 1 Markscheme:
- 1 mark for defining mobile computing as "the use of portable devices to access and process data while on the go and connect to networks."
- 1 mark for listing any two characteristics: portability, connectivity, interactivity, or individuality.
Question 2 Markscheme:
- 1 mark for stating that ubiquitous computing integrates computing power into the environment, making it always available but not necessarily visible.
- 1 mark for stating that mobile computing relies on portable devices carried by users.
- 1 mark for clearly explaining the contrast between integration into the environment (ubiquitous) and the reliance on user-carried devices (mobile).
Qustions 3 Markscheme:
- 1 mark for defining P2P as "a decentralized network where devices connect directly to share resources without a central server."
- 1 mark for providing a valid example, such as BitTorrent or decentralized cryptocurrency networks like Bitcoin.
Question 4 Markscheme:
- 1 mark for mentioning the use of sensors or interconnected devices in traffic lights.
- 1 mark for explaining how these devices could communicate to adjust timing dynamically based on traffic conditions.
- 1 mark for connecting this system to the broader idea of ubiquitous computing providing seamless integration into the environment to enhance convenience and efficiency.
Qustion 5 Markscheme:
- 1-2 marks for identifying the role of grid computing in combining resources from multiple locations to analyze large datasets or perform tasks quickly.
- 1-2 marks for evaluating its scalability, flexibility, and ability to solve problems requiring significant computational power.
- 1 mark for addressing limitations or challenges, such as the need for network infrastructure, coordination, or security concerns.
